Club founded 2016

Kev founded Gol Futsal in 2016, but it didn’t begin as a club. It began as a weekly futsal session for the mini-soccer team he was coaching at the time, added to complement their football. Within a short time the improvement was obvious: the quick thinking and technical demands of futsal were rapidly developing the players individually and the team as a whole.

“I soon realised that I should have introduced the group to Futsal sooner.”

As the team kept improving it started attracting attention from professional clubs, and before long 90% of the squad had been signed. That could have been the end of it. Instead, Kev kept the session going: “The boys were busy playing all over London but, in order to keep the boys training together, I decided to continue with the weekly Futsal session.”

Other players soon asked to join. One session became two, then three, and Gol grew from there. Since then Kev has worked with hundreds of players across every age group, from first-touch beginners in the U6–U7 group through to adults playing competitive futsal.

Watching a player’s technique come on is always satisfying — but what Kev values most is watching his young members grow as people: the shy ones who find their voice, the ones who learn to lose graciously and win humbly, and the friendships that get built along the way. That’s the bit of the job he still loves most, a decade on.

With Gol from the start

I have been fortunate to be part of Gol from the beginning — around 11 years ago. This is when Kevin introduced it to his own little team. Even in those early days, you could see the benefits it brought to those players, and it has continued to develop and improve every player who attends.

For me, the journey has been one of immense pleasure — not only from a Futsal perspective, but also from watching children grow in confidence week by week. Seeing their skills develop, their friendships grow, and their confidence build has been incredibly rewarding.

Gol has become much more than just a Futsal club. It has been about creating an environment where young players can enjoy themselves, challenge themselves and, most importantly, believe in themselves.

We have also seen a number of players move on to become professionals at various Football clubs in England. Players have also represented their international teams at youth level.

Tom Butler

Joined Gol 2021

I’m Tom, a passionate Football and Futsal coach with over 7 years of coaching experience, helping young players develop their skills, confidence and love for the game.

My coaching journey began with Southend United Community Foundation (SUFC), before discovering my passion for Futsal and joining Gol in 2021.

What I love most about Futsal is the fast pace, intensity and constant involvement. Every session gives players the opportunity to make decisions, express themselves and challenge themselves in a high-energy environment.

Seeing young players develop from 5 through to 17 years old, watching their confidence grow and seeing their hard work translate onto the court is what makes coaching so rewarding for me.

Tom Cruse

UEFA A Licence

With over 15 years of coaching experience, I have had the opportunity to work across a variety of football environments, including primary schools, grassroots clubs, academy settings and professional environments. I have coached both boys and girls across different age groups and levels, as well as running my own 1-to-1 coaching sessions and football camps throughout the school holidays.

I am a UEFA A Licence qualified coach with a strong passion for player development and creating environments where players are encouraged to learn, make decisions, express themselves and enjoy the game.

Futsal is a huge part of my coaching philosophy. I love the demands that the game places on players — the speed of play, constant involvement, quick decision-making, close control, movement, creativity and the ability to find solutions in tight spaces. I believe these qualities are invaluable in developing technically strong, intelligent and adaptable players.

My experience across different levels of the game allows me to bring a broad perspective to futsal coaching, while still appreciating the unique identity and demands of futsal. My aim is to help players develop their technical and tactical understanding of the game, build confidence and, most importantly, develop a genuine love for playing futsal.

Luciano

I’m Luciano, and my journey with Gol Futsal began when I was just 10 years old. Since then, the club has given me some incredible experiences, from representing Gol in Spain and captaining my team to our first-ever victory, to reaching the National Youth Futsal Cup Final in Derby.

At 16, I’m still proudly representing Gol Futsal as a player at U18 level, but my passion for the game has also led me into coaching. I began assisting the senior coaches when I was just 14 years old, and I’ve continued to do so ever since.

I’ve always enjoyed helping others improve, and sharing knowledge, tips and ideas with players is a big part of who I am. I love seeing players take something from a session, put it into practice and develop their game.

I would highly encourage any young player who loves football to get involved in Futsal. The speed, intensity and technical demands of the game can really help develop a player’s close control, decision-making, confidence and creativity — skills that can make a huge difference when they step back onto the football pitch.

For me, Futsal has played a huge part in my own development, and I’m excited to help the next generation experience the same.
